Assessment Only Route

In order to qualify for the Assessment Only Route (AOR) programme for Secondary, you will need to have a degree in a relevant subject to the area in which you intend to teach, as well as GSCE Grade C or above in both Maths & English. For Primary your degree does not need to be subject specific and you will also require Science as well as Maths & English at GCSE Grade C or above. In addition, prior teaching experience across a wide age and ability range is required, where one would also have gained experience of different approaches to teaching and learning and school organisation and management.

It is required that candidates must have taught in two schools prior to the award of QTS. It is not sufficient for candidates only to have had experience of two schools. Providers will wish to consider whether a candidate's prior experience of teaching in school gives enough evidence to count towards the requirements stipulated. Irrespective of prior experience, candidates must show experience of teaching across their chosen age ranges and must be able to demonstrate that they have met all the QTS standards for these age ranges as set out in requirement A2.

There is no training involved in the Assessment Only progamme. Candidates will need to have evidence obtained from teaching in a UK school, across two consecutive Key Stages which would need to be accompanied by a supporting letter from the employing school confirming that they have validated the evidence base and that the applicant meets the requirements of the Teacher Standards (including at what level i.e 1,2 or 3).
